The Coffee Tree opens in Sherrill NY – Utica Observer Dispatch

The owners of The Coffee Tree in Sherrill hope their guests will come in for a cup of coffee, sit for a while and leave the rest of the world outside.
“I want them to come in for a cup of coffee and forget their troubles for even five minutes,” said Kathy Roberts, who owns the shop with daughter Kaylee Sierson.
“I just love making people happy and give them a little smile,” Sierson agreed. “I think we can make their days better by giving them a little kindness.”
Selling their baked goods and vegetables at a local farmers market inspired the mother-daughter team to look toward opening their own coffee shop.
“We’ve really always wanted to do this,” Roberts said. “We spent three years at the Clinton market and enjoyed being with the people and feeling their loyalty. But here we thought we could go even bigger.”
“A lot of love really went into this, one block at a time,” Sierson noted of their 10 months of work since purchasing the building in January. “Every single wall in here has been redone.”

She said many family members helped them out in the project, which was extended from its original projected May opening date thanks to some backorders on needed accoutrements. They thanked husbands Mark Roberts and Daniel Sierson plus family friends Travis and Kristi Placke for their invaluable assistance.
The menu will include coffee and tea plus soups, salads and sandwiches and an in-house bakery. Roberts said it will change seasonally to keep it fresh and will feature as close to farm-to-table fare as possible.
They already know the reception in Sherrill will be as warm as it was in Clinton.
“The people here have been really wonderful,” Roberts said. “The community has been really supportive as we have worked to get the shop open.”

Roberts said she has enjoyed the mother-daughter time they have shared in getting the business open, and that special time also will include her other daughter Abby Roberts.
“We have spent a lot of time together learning about business and learning about each other,” she said. “My initial intent was to have a great place for my girls to work that is safe. This is a great community to be in.”
