Not to wax too philosophic about coffee, but the ritual of making a pour-over first thing in the morning is one of my favorite parts of the day. There’s something romantic about the mechanic simplicity to the process: it’s just you, a kettle, and a brewing device taking a few minutes in the morning to get centered. And the result is coffee.
For those who appreciate the few quiet coffee making moments in the liminal time between waking and working, an elegant pour-over can really elevate the overall experience. Enter the Quindío Coffee Maker, a simple, thoughtfully-designed brewing device made for slowing down and enjoying the process.
Released at the end of September, the Quindío Coffee Maker Collection is the work of Patricia Kuhn and Juan Ortiz, co-founders of the Barcelona-based design firm Wolf & Miu. Comprised of just two materials, the Quindío set includes a double-walled ceramic pour-over device—created to be used with #2 or #4 Melitta coffee filters—designed to fit inside a wood stand, made of either walnut or oak. Below the dripper sits a 650ml ceramic server, whose wooden lid has a secondary function as a platform for single-cup brewing.
In keeping with Wolf & Miu’s design aesthetic, the Quindío minimalist look belies the amount of effort it takes to produce a single pour-over set. Per the website, a total of 30 steps go into making each ceramic piece and over 50 for the wooden stand and lid. The result is an elegant coffeemaker, produced by multiple craftspeople in limited batches, each one numbered.
Available for purchase directly from Wolf & Miu, the Quindío Coffee Maker Collection comes in black and white ceramic options and a choice between walnut and oak wood. Prices for the entire set range from €195 ($225 USD) to €230 ($265) depending on materials selected. For more information, visit Wolf & Miu’s official website.
